Waymo set to expand with Fiat Chrysler hybrid minivans

Waymo, the self-driving car group, is set to expand in a big way in 2018. The company inked an agreement with hybrid leader Fiat Chrysler to acquire thousands of the automaker’s Pacifica Hybrid minivans to start the first autonomous ride-hailing service.

Fiat Chrysler and Waymo have worked together since 2016 to bring 600 hybrid minivans to cities around the country, starting with Phoenix. The two companies worked hand-in-hand to integrate the autonomous technology with Fiat’s mass production lines. The hybrid minivans are integral to Waymo’s self-driving service, set to launch this year. Read the press release here.
