Mercedes to release diesel plug-in hybrid

Two plug-in diesel pre-production models are to make their first appearance at the Geneva Motor Show this week. Mercedes-Benz plans to reveal the two models, outfitted with a four-cylinder diesel engine in combination with a lithium-ion battery capable of storing 13.5kWh of energy.

As Green Car Congress reports, these diesel plug-ins exhibit the first passenger car diesel engine “to use the stepped-bowl combustion process.” The third-generation hybrid is also replete with features. Read more.
