In May, 27,781 plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles were sold in the United States, a 31% increase off of April’s total. The Toyota Prius Prime was the best selling plug-in hybrid for the month with 1,914 units sold. In second place for the hybrids was the Honda Clarity PHEV.
Tesla led the category for plug-in electric vehicles, again with its Model 3. The automaker sold 13,950 Model 3s for the month. Chevrolet took the number two spot, selling 1,396 of its Bolt EVs. The Tesla Model X and Tesla Model S also sold well.
