Lawsuit against Volvo scheduled for federal trial in October 2022

The patent infringement lawsuit filed against Volvo is moving forward in U.S. District Court. A federal judge has scheduled a trial for October 3, 2022, in Maryland Federal District Court.

Paice and the Abell Foundation filed the patent infringement lawsuit against Volvo in Dec. 2020. Ford Motor Co. sold Volvo in 2010 to the Chinese automotive company, Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, which owns several automotive companies and suppliers and holds significant equity in Daimler AG.

The lawsuit alleges the Volvo is infringing on three patents (No. 6,338,391, No. 7,455,134, and No. 6,209,672). Read the complaint. Read news coverage in the Baltimore Sun.

Paice files patent infringement lawsuit against BMW

November 2019

Paice and the Abell Foundation filed a patent infringement lawsuit against BMW in U.S. District Court in Maryland in Nov. 2019. The lawsuit alleges the BMW is infringing on three patents (No. 7,104,347, No. 7,237,634, and No. 8,630,761). Read the complaint. Read the press release and news coverage.

The litigation against BMW has been stayed until February 26, 2021.

BMW has filed three petitions for Inter Partes Review (IPR) at the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office. The IPR proceeding (IPR2020-00994) challenging U.S. Patent No. 7,104,347 was instituted in Nov. 2020. The IPR proceeding (IPR2020-01299) challenging U.S. Patent No. 8,630,761 was instituted in Jan. 2021. The IPR proceeding (IPR2020-01386) challenging U.S. Patent No. 7,237,634 was instituted on February 5, 2021.
