Forbes: Hyundai Aims To Steal Eco-Car Crown From Toyota Prius


The Hyundai Ioniq — the world’s first vehicle to offer a choice of three electrified powertrains a single body type — hopes to replace the Toyota Prius as the top eco-car. The Ioniq hybrid will boast the world’s best hybrid fuel economy rating with 56 mpg combined, edging out the Prius.

Hyundai expects the global market for ‘green’ cars to grow to more than five million units in the near future, including a mixture of traditional hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and electric vehicles. Hyundai’s strategy: to develop all types of green vehicles, including the Ioniq that will offer several alternative powertrain technologies.
