HybridCars.com reports that auto sales closed the year strong. Sales were up 15 percent in December, with hybrids (up 7%), plug-in hybrids (up 21%) and electric vehicles (up 77%) all enjoying strong growth.
There were 32,187 hybrids sold in the U.S. in December and 364,174 hybrids sold for the year. That represents a modest five percent growth for the year. Notable: The Ford Fusion saw its sales increase 70 percent in 2017.
There were 10,190 plug-in hybrids sold in the U.S. in December and 89,992 sold for the year. Notable: The Prius Prime remains the best selling plug-in hybrid with 16 percent of the market share.
There were 14,959 electric vehicles sold in December and 104,487 sold for the year. That represents a 24 percent increase for the year. Notable: Annual sales topped the 100,000 mark for the first time.
