BMW moving away from diesel

BMW has announced it will drop its diesel offerings stateside beginning with its 2019 model year and will shift its focus to plug-in hybrids. The automaker has five PHEVs on offer, and will augment its electrified lineup over the next few years. A BMW spokesman went as far as to say, “we’re putting all our eggs in the PHEV basket.” Though this news broke on Tuesday, the automaker walked back its statement, adding “BMW of North America continues to monitor customer preferences and is prepared to adjust the product portfolio accordingly.” In other words, BMW is moving to PHEVs, but it may not have entirely closed the door on diesel yet.
